Is Your Tax Filing Ready by April 15?
Are you ready for the April 15th deadline to file your taxes? Not sure where to start? Check out our
handy guide to assist you in filing your taxes with confidence and avoid tax season scams.
Preparing to file your taxes? Be sure to follow these steps.
- Gather and organize your documents ahead of time.
- Locate online or in-person tax help if needed.
- Double-check your math and spelling.
- File before the deadline.
Be wary of tax season scams! The IRS will never contact you by social media, text or email. If they do
contact you, they would not demand that you share personal information over the phone or demand
immediate payment. Threatening language can also be a sign of fraud.
Another way to avoid fraudsters is to file early and pay electronically if possible. Fraudsters can take
advantage of checks placed in the mail, especially when checks are dropped off at collection mailboxes.
If you are sending your forms or checks through the mail, the best way to ensure their safe delivery is to
visit your local post office during business hours.
If you believe that you’ve been a victim of tax-related fraud, contact the IRS immediately and check out
their page on the steps to take here: https://www.irs.gov/help/tax-scams/if-you-were-scammed
