Our Story

Founded in 1953 as Ward Parkway Bank, Country Club Bank has been a cornerstone of the Kansas City community for more than seven decades. In 1963, we adopted the name Country Club Bank and established our holding company, CCB Financial Corporation, in 1968 to support our long-term growth.

Our transformative journey began in 1985 when the late Byron Thompson, a visionary Kansas City entrepreneur, acquired majority ownership. Under his leadership, the bank experienced remarkable growth, expanding from a single-location $42 million institution to a multifaceted financial entity with more than $2.13 billion in assets. This expansion included the addition of a trust company, investment services, insurance, wealth management, mergers and acquisitions, and asset and liability management for community banks nationwide—alongside the growth to 20 locations across Greater Kansas City.

Today, under the guidance of Chairman and CEO Paul Thompson, Byron's son, Country Club Bank continues its legacy of community-focused banking. Our leadership team includes eight members from the second and third generations of the Thompson family.
